Micron’s Crucial T700 SSD

The Crucial T700 series of PCIe Gen 5.0 NVMe solid-state drives (SSDs) from Micron is being officially launched. These SSDs stand out from the competition by utilising Micron’s own 2000 MT/s 232-layer 3D TLC NAND, which offers superior performance potential. While most high-performance PCIe 5.0 SSDs on the market use Phison’s E26 controller and 1600 MT/s flash memory, the Crucial T700 differentiates itself with its advanced NAND technology.

The Crucial T700 will be available in three capacities: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. It will also be offered in two trims: with or without an included heatsink. The underlying drives in both versions are identical, and the choice of heatsink is intended to accommodate various system configurations. It’s worth noting that these drives require some form of cooling. While the non-heatsink model can operate without additional cooling, it is recommended to have cooling in place for sustained loads to avoid overheating and errors.

In terms of physical design, the Crucial T700 SSDs follow the standard M.2 2280 form factor. The PCBs are dark-coloured and populated with components on both sides. The top side is covered with a stylized graphene or aluminium heat spreader, while the bottom side features a large decal displaying the drive’s information and branding.

Specifications:

  1. SSD Series: T700
  2. Interface: PCIe Gen 5.0 x4, NVMe 2.0
  3. Capacity: 1TB, 2TB, & 4TB
  4. SSD Endurance(TBW): 600TB

The Crucial T700 series is built around an 8-channel Phison PS5026-E26 controller, Micron’s 232-layer 3D TLC NAND Flash memory operating at 2000 MT/s, LPDDR4 DRAM cache (1GB per 1TB of capacity), and customized Micron/Crucial firmware. The drives feature a PCIe Gen x4 (Gen 5) interface, support for the NVMe 2.0 specification, and built-in AES256 encryption with TCG Opal 2.01 support.

The performance of the Crucial T700 SSDs(Click here for MSI Newly Launched SSD) varies depending on the capacity. For a 2TB drive, the read and write speeds are rated at up to 12,400 MB/s and 11,800 MB/s, respectively, with up to 1.5 million read and write IOPS. The endurance rating for the 2TB drive is 1200 TBW (1.2 PBW), although this value scales based on the total capacity. Micron provides a full five-year warranty for the Crucial T700 series.

In conclusion, the Crucial T700 series offers impressive specifications, but its actual performance needs to be tested to determine its competitiveness among other enthusiast-class SSDs on the market.
