GIGABYTE R283

With select 5th generation AMD EPYC CPUs ready, GIGABYTE releases high memory capacity servers for cloud computing and big data using AMD EPYC 9004 processors.
For CPU and memory-intensive applications, one node can house 48 DIMMs.

Giga Computing, a GIGABYTE subsidiary and a pioneer in the field of generative AI servers and cutting-edge cooling technologies, has announced the launching of two R-series servers (R183-ZK0 and R283-ZK0) from GIGABYTE that offer improved dependability and performance for cloud services and applications. These servers with highly expandable memory capacities are compatible with AMD EPYC 9004 processors and can accommodate up to 192 CPU cores of the 5th generation AMD EPYC processor.

The first and only GIGABYTE servers available on the market are these new models, which are a single node with two CPUs that can support 48 memory DIMMs. This server with 12TB memory was made feasible by GIGABYTE’s extensive background in motherboard design and engineering with excellent signal integrity. It uses 256GB DDR5 3DS RDIMMs. A novel memory layout was created to support a 12-memory channel platform with a 2DPC configuration without sacrificing performance.

By supporting AMD’s whole lineup of its most recent and next AMD EPYC processors, the GIGABYTE R183-ZK0 offers the highest compute density feasible for CPU and memory-intensive tasks. In order to optimise performance and energy efficiency, this GIGABYTE solution integrates its unique cold plate technology with the well-proven DLC technology that has been helping data centres become greener. This makes it possible for a single server node to host numerous virtual machines with consistent performance or handle massive data sets in an effective manner.

The GIGABYTE R283-ZK0 integrates seamlessly into the conventional data centre air conditioning system by using a potent fan solution to force a large amount of air into and out of the server, enabling all parts to operate at their best. Twelve 2.5″ storage bays for Gen5 NVMe and SATA SSDs are included in this new R283 series server to help with quickly managing and accessing enormous volumes of data. Additionally, there are two more spaces for OCP 3.0 devices and four more FHHL slots to accommodate larger networking equipment.

The memory slots’ “zigzag” arrangement offers consumers a plethora of setup and expansion choices. Users can have a highly scalable system in terms of performance and memory capacity. The huge RAM capacity allows for the simultaneous operation of multiple virtual machines and can be utilised for massive dataset in-memory processing in big data analytics.

AMD EPYC 9004

Fuelling the Next Wave of Energy Efficiency and Server Architecture

AMD EPYC 9004 Series processors carry on the successful generations of EPYC breakthroughs and chiplet designs that opened the way for AMD’s 5nm ‘Zen 4’ architecture.

The new EPYC processor family, which adds a slew of new capabilities to target a broad variety of applications, will give even greater performance per watt and CPU performance on a platform with double the throughput of PCIe 4.0 lanes and support for 50% more memory channels. With components designed to maximise the performance of EPYC-based systems that enable fast PCIe Gen5 accelerators, Gen5 NVMe SSDs, and highly performant DDR5 memory, GIGABYTE is prepared for this new platform.

Elevated Efficiency: GIGABYTE tests its servers and motherboards to guarantee optimal performance under taxing CPU workloads. The newest technologies are all supported.

Calculate Density: Many two CPU servers cannot match the performance of a single socket system. 192 cores in a 1U chassis are also supported by dual socket variants. enhanced portability of performance.

Quick & Reliable Internet Access: Designed to meet the demands of the next generation of technology, well-made GIGABYTE boards give users PCIe 5.0 signal integrity.

The ability to modularise: They can swiftly introduce new models to the market thanks to our building block concept. Also available to customers is BMC on an OCP module that has been altered by GIGABYTE.

Cooperation: AMD and GIGABYTE have managed to keep a positive working partnership that emphasises knowledge sharing in order to provide data centres with the newest technologies.

Best Possible Price: With a reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), their wide range of products and models enables customers to choose only the features they need.

Energy Efficiency

Controlled Fan Speed Automatically: GIGABYTE servers provide Automatic Fan Speed Control for better cooling and power savings. Intelligently placed temperature sensors across servers will automatically adjust fan speeds.

Chilled Redundancy: For servers with N+1 power supplies, GIGABYTE has added a power management function called Cold Redundancy to utilise the fact that a PSU would operate at higher power efficiency with a larger load. The system will automatically switch one PSU to standby mode when the overall system load drops below 40%. This will increase efficiency by 10%.

Elevated Availability

Ride-through Smart (SmaRT): In order to guard against data loss and server outages due to AC power outages, GIGABYTE has included SmaRT into all of our server platforms. If this happens, the system throttles to preserve availability and reduce power usage. Power supply capacitors can provide power for 10–20 ms, enough time to switch to a backup power source and continue running.

SCMP means Smart Crises Management and Protection: A patented feature of GIGABYTE, SCMP is used in servers with a non-fully redundant PSU design. With SCMP, the system will put the CPU into an ultra-low power mode to lower the power load, preventing an unplanned shutdown and preventing component damage or data loss in the event of a malfunctioning PSU or overheated system.

Architecture with Dual ROM: The backup BMC and/or BIOS will take over the primary BIOS upon system reset if the ROM containing the BMC and BIOS is unable to boot. The backup BMC’s ROM will automatically update the backup through synchronisation as soon as the primary BMC is updated. The BIOS can be upgraded according to the firmware version selected by the user.

Hardware Safety

TPM 2.0 Module Option: Passwords, encryption keys, and digital certificates are kept in a TPM module for hardware-based authentication to keep unauthorised users from accessing your data. There are two types of GIGABYTE TPM modules: Low Pin Count and Serial Peripheral Interface.

Easy to Use

Tool-free Drive Bays Style: A clipping mechanism holds the drive firmly in position. It takes seconds to install or swap out a new drive.

Ready for OCP 3.0: Servers with an integrated OCP 3.0 slot for the upcoming generation of add-on cards are available from GIGABYTE.

Simple Serviceability: Insert or remove the card with ease, without needing to use tools or open the server.

Better thermal planning: Air cooling makes it possible to effectively remove heat in a horizontal position and with an ideal heat sink design.
