Ryzen 8040 “Hawk Point” APUs with Zen 4 and RDNA 3 will be available for laptops manufactured by AMD in 2024
The existing Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” family will get an upgrade in the form of the AMD Ryzen 8040 “Hawk Point” SKUs when they are released later this year. As a result of the continued high demand for the Phoenix APUs, AMD intends to roll out an update for those processors before introducing its more substantial enhancements in the form of the Strix Ryzen 8050 series in the middle of 2024. The Zen 4-core architecture will continue to be used by the Hawk Point APUs.
These APUs will be compatible with the FP7/r2 and FP8 platforms, and they will provide support for DDR5/LPDDR5x memory. In addition, the graphical capabilities of the Hawk Point APUs will be constrained to the RDNA 3 architecture, the same as those of their predecessors.
It would seem, based on the updated list that was supplied by Harukaze5719, that AMD intends to stick with the conventional naming method, which is comparable to what was seen with the Phoenix family. Again, the APUs are separated into two distinct series: the H-series and the U-series. These two series each have their own unique TDP section.
The soon-to-be-released Ryzen 9 8940HS from AMD has already been seen being put to use, despite the fact that there is not yet extensive information available on what these market sectors will provide. This has shown satisfactory performance and satisfies the requirements for an upgrade.
The Phoenix3 and Phoenix4 IDs were found to be present in the PCI ID repository after a prior breach exposed their location. This suggests that AMD has most likely made a decision about the codenames for the Ryzen 8040 series at this point.
It would seem that the Ryzen 8040 APUs will be especially beneficial to the laptop market, particularly since the versions in the “HS series” are anticipated to provide high performance at an efficient level. The AMD Ryzen 8040 “Hawk Point” APU family is anticipated to make its first appearance sometime around the CES 2024 convention.
