Introducing SK Hynix PS1012 U.2 SSD For AI Data Centers

SK Hynix Inc. declared that it has finished developing the “PS1012 U.2,” a high-capacity SSD drive intended for AI data centres.

U.2: A form factor for SSDs that is mostly utilised in servers or high-performance workstations; it is usually 2.5 inches in size. It is renowned for its great endurance and big storage capacity.

The need for high-performance business SSDs (eSSD) is growing quickly as the AI era progresses, and QLC technology, which makes high capacity possible, has established itself as the industry standard. Following this pattern, SK Hynix used this technology to create a 61TB product and release it onto the market.

QLC: NAND memory is divided into SLC, MLC, TLC, QLC, and PLC based on how much data each cell holds. More data may be kept in the same space as the volume of information stored grows.

In comparison to products based on the fourth generation, the PS1012 U.2 doubles its bandwidth with the most recent 5th generation (Gen5) PCIe3. This results in a sequential read performance of 13GB/s (gigabyte per second) and a data transfer speed of 32GT/s (giga-transfers per second), which is twice as fast as previous generation products.

In order to overcome the capacity constraints of eSSD, the business also plans to lead the SSD market for ultra-high capacity data centres by creating 244TB products based on the highest 321-high 4D NAND in the world, which was produced in November.
