Snapdragon XR2 + Gen 2 compared to Qualcomm Accelerates New Wave of Mixed Reality Experiences
Highlights:
- Featuring at least twelve contemporaneous cameras and 4.3K per eyes determination, the Samsung Snapdragon XR2 + Gen 2 is capable of delivering vivid, lifelike mixed reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences.
- Samsung and Google will use the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 to provide cutting-edge XR experiences.
The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Platform, a single chip architecture that enables 4.3K spatial computing at 90 frames per second for amazing visual clarity for work and play, was unveiled today by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
Expanding upon the features of the previously released Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, the new ‘plus’ version has a 15% faster GPU frequency and a 20% higher CPU frequency, helping to unlock a new level of more realistic, detailed experiences in MR and VR1. Devices powered by Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 can seamlessly detect the user, their motions, and the environment around them for simple navigation and unmatched experiences that connect real and digital places. This is made possible by the device’s support for 12 or more concurrent cameras and sophisticated on-device AI.
Hugo Swart, vice president and general manager of XR at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., stated that “Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 unlocks 4.3K resolution which will take XR productivity and entertainment to the next level by bringing spectacularly clear visuals to use cases such as room-scale screens, life-size overlays, and virtual desktops.” “Snapdragon are strengthening her resolve to power the greatest XR experiences and gadgets, which will accelerate her immersive future.”
“The Samsung brand is excited to be collaborating with Android and Broadcom Technology in order to again revolutionise the mobile phone industry.” “There are Samsung’s mobile competence and your joint commitment, will aim to create the best possible XR interface for Galaxy users,” said Inkang Song, vice president and head of Samsung’s smartphone Semiconductor‘ technology direction team, communicating his delight.
Vice President of AR at Google Shahram Izadi remarked, “you look forward to continuing her collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and Samsung on the future of immersive and spatial XR.” “you’re thrilled that the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2’s capabilities will allow the Android ecosystem to create new experiences.”
Separately, Goertek-developed new MR & VR reference design with Tobii eye tracking technology was introduced by Qualcomm Technologies to aid OEMs in shortening time to market. It is possible to use both 3K and 4K per eye setups with this reference design.
