“Friday Night Baseball,” a weekly doubleheader accessible on Apple TV+, is scheduled to return for the 2025 regular season, according to an announcement made by Apple and Major League Baseball (MLB). Over the course of 25 weeks, fans from 60 nations and regions may experience two high-profile contests with improved production quality, knowledgeable commentary, and no limits on local broadcasting.
The 2025 season of “Friday Night Baseball,” which features some of the biggest stars in baseball, begins on Friday, March 28. Orioles All-Star At 6:30 p.m. ET, Adley Rutschman plays division rival Toronto Blue Jays and Silver Slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Jose Altuve and the Houston Astros face sensation Juan Soto and the New York Mets at 7:30 p.m. ET in the second game of the first doubleheader.
The “Friday Night Baseball” schedule for the first half of the season through June 27 was also revealed by Apple and MLB. A Yankees-Dodgers World Series rematch in Los Angeles, a Rangers-Astros game in Texas, and more appearances by MVP Shohei Ohtani and the all-star Dodgers who travel east to play Bryce Harper’s Philadelphia Phillies and Juan Soto’s New York Mets are among the noteworthy games. According to Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Sports, and Beats, “Apple is excited to bring another season of ‘Friday Night Baseball’ to Apple TV+, with top-tier production quality that baseball fans love.” “We’re thrilled to offer an incredible selection of games this season that are accessible on more devices than ever before and don’t have any blackouts.”
For the third consecutive season, broadcast teams Wayne Randazzo (play-by-play), Dontrelle Willis (analyst), and Heidi Watney (sideline reporter) will call “Friday Night Baseball” games, while Alex Faust (play-by-play), Ryan Spilborghs (analyst), and Tricia Whitaker (sideline reporter) will do the same. Xavier Scruggs, Russell Dorsey, and Lauren Gardner will once again provide live pre- and postgame coverage from the field as well as in the studio. Rich Waltz will call a few games, while Siera Santos will present a few pregame shows.
The Emmy Award-winning production team of MLB Network collaborates with Apple’s live sports production team to deliver “Friday Night Baseball.” In order to fully immerse fans in the stadium environment, each game will have cutting-edge cameras and immersive sound in 5.1 with Spatial Audio enabled, including player and field-level microphones. Additionally, during “Friday Night Baseball” games, fans in the United States and Canada will have the opportunity to tune in to local radio broadcasts both at home and away.
The MLB Big Inning whip-around show, which features live look-ins and in-game highlights every weeknight, and a comprehensive lineup of MLB-related content on Apple TV+, including as Countdown to First Pitch, MLB Daily Recap, and MLB This Week, will be available to fans in the United States starting on opening day on March 27. MLB fans can now watch game recaps, old games, highlights, interviews, and more for free on the Apple TV app.
Fans can watch up to four simultaneous streams, including Major League Soccer matches, “Friday Night Baseball” games, and several MLS and MLB live events, using the multiview capability on Apple TV 4K devices and iPads. When the studio program or match that viewers are now viewing comes to an end, Post Play allows them to easily switch to other live games.
Additionally, Apple today unveiled VIP: Yankee Stadium, a brand-new Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro that provides spectators with full access to one of the most recognizable sports arenas in the world. The movie, which will be free to watch next month, follows broadcasting icon Joe Buck as he welcomes fans to Yankee Stadium for a June 2024 “Friday Night Baseball” game between the Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, their longstanding rivals. Viewers will see how the Bronx ballpark is made legendary by top athletes, ardent supporters, committed employees, and memorable events, from early morning preparation scenes to a suspenseful twilight finish.
Alongside the upcoming season, Apple TV+ will debut Fight For Glory: 2024 World Series, the first all-access documentary series that delves into the high-stakes, dramatic world of the World Series, where the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees compete for the most coveted trophy in American sports. With unparalleled access to behind-the-scenes coverage and interviews with players, coaches, fans, journalists, and family members, the new three-part documentary provides a never-before-seen look at each team’s postseason adventure. The project is being developed in collaboration with Imagine Documentaries and MLB, R.J. Cutler’s This Machine, which is a division of Sony Pictures Television, and executive producer Derek Jeter, who has won five World Series, and his production firm, Cap 2 Productions.
