Apple today unveiled new shows, movies, TV shows, and musical performances that were recorded using Apple Immersive Video and will be available for free on Apple Vision Pro. The Academy Award-winning director Edward Berger’s scripted short film, Submerged, the first to be recorded in Apple Immersive Video, is now accessible. Using a full-scale 23-ton submarine set constructed with genuine steel, brass, and metal and based on WWII-era ships, Submerged was shot over three weeks on location in Prague, Brussels, and Malta. In addition to actual camera traps and special effects that were specially setup to expose Apple Immersive Videos cameras to sparks, steam, water, and fire without compromising viewers’ feeling of immersion, significant elements of the set were constructed to resist being completely flooded.
To ensure continuity and authenticity, cast members who could appear out of frame or out of focus in a 2D film underwent rigorous scripting and took part in lengthy stunt rehearsals, which included freediving training in open water and diving tanks.
