In the ever-changing data center sector, open standards drive efficiency and innovation. Businesses worldwide are anticipated to increase their investments in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure to $422.55 billion by 2029, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 44% during the next five years. The open-source hardware-focused Open Compute Platform (OCP) community is driving this development. These ideas are embodied in Dell’s Integrated Rack Scalable Systems (IRSS), which provide reliable, flexible solutions made to satisfy the particular requirements of extensive AI deployments.

Integrated Rack Scalable Systems (IRSS) from Dell: An Ideal Match for Dense Computing and Large-Scale AI

Presenting the PowerEdge M7725, PowerEdge XE9712, and the new Integrated Rack 7000 (IR7000). As AI workloads boost the demand for technology that offers energy-efficient, dense computation that will support future technological breakthroughs, these new solutions offer a smooth and potent answer for modern data centers. With improved scalability and energy efficiency, Dell’s IRSS supports data center operations and conforms to the rack standards of the Open Compute Project.

Dell’s Integrated Rack Scalable Systems (IRSS) A Perfect Fit for Large-Scale AI and Dense Compute

With liquid cooling for high TDP GPUs and CPUs and dense computation, the Dell Integrated Rack 7000 (IR7000) is a 21″ Open Rack Version 3 (Orv3) based rack infrastructure. When attempting to integrate servers with multiple DLC OEMs in a same rack, direct liquid cooling (DLC) manifold connections were proprietary and incompatible prior to ORV3. In terms of training huge AI models, Dell’s next-generation, quick-connect modular infrastructure sets the standard for the future.

Key Features of IR7000, PowerEdge M7725 and XE9712

Flexible power: AC power shelves that can handle 33kW to 264kW per rack at the moment, with plans to deploy 480kW in the future.

Ready for the future: Multiple generations of CPU architectures will be supported by 44OU and 50OU systems with wider, taller sleds that are based on OCP specifications.

Efficient: Provides smooth power scaling and nearly 100% heat capture, consuming and dissipating high power and thermal exhaust.

Optimizes Front IO: In a 21-inch box design, custom configurations might provide for flexible I/O or storage.

The Dell PowerEdge M7725 was designed with dense computing in mind. Two AMD EPYC 5th Generation processors, which provide 37% more instructions per clock (IPC) for high performance computing (HPC) than the previous generations, are supported by the PowerEdge M7725. Up to 27,000 cores per rack and 72 M7725 server nodes can be supported by a single IR7000. The M7725 provides DLC connectivity, cable-free power, and enhanced serviceability with front IO. Through the use of Dell’s proprietary rear door heat capture technology, the M7725 with IR7000 Rack provides room neutral (almost 100%) heat collection capability.

Scalable: Up to 27,000 cores can be delivered per 50OU rack with up to 72 nodes supported. For HPC applications, AMD 5th Gen Processors offer an IPC that is 37% higher.

High Speed IO: Two PCIe Gen5 x 16 IO slots per node provide for the fastest possible data transfer rates (supporting Ethernet and InfiniBand choices), while an extra OCP slot allows for host administration connectivity.

Power & Cooling: Use the IR7000 Rack Infrastructure to efficiently power and cool two 500W processors in a compact form factor.

The Dell PowerEdge XE9712 adds an NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 solution to the Dell AI Factory. With 72 GPUs operating as a single rack, the XE9712 provides faster LLM performance, building on the success of the XE9680 with 8-way HGX GPUs. Dell’s turnkey rack-scale deployment services, supply chain, and logistics will support its large-scale deployment of super PODs with full networking across racks.

  • 25 times the H100’s efficiency
  • Real-time trillion parameter LLM inference that is 30 times faster than the H100
  • Higher performance and quicker data processing are made possible by the effective heat management provided by liquid-cooled architecture.

Future-ready AI

For OCP clients, Dell’s Integrated Rack Scalable Systems which include the IR7000, PowerEdge M7725, and XE9712 offer a smooth, integrated solution. These advancements give data centers the ability to face the challenges of the future by embracing open standards and providing unparalleled performance and efficiency.
