Ryzen 8000 APUs now supported by leaked WHQL AMD chipset drivers
A recent WHQL-certified AMD chipset driver update, which included support for AMD’s future Ryzen 8000 series APU family, was leaked online, according to HKL 9550pro on X (Twitter). Based on the latest driver update, AMD seems to have finished developing chipset drivers for its new Ryzen 8000 APUs and is preparing to launch its new APU portfolio at any moment.
One important clue that Ryzen 8000 APU development is almost finished is the fact that AMD‘s new driver already has WHQL support confirmed. The term “WHQL” refers to Windows Hardware Quality Laboratories testing, which indicates that AMD’s most recent driver version has previously undergone testing by Microsoft themselves to ensure complete compatibility with Windows. Consequently, AMD’s new Ryzen 8000 driver is probably prepared for release and may be made available at any moment.
AMD’s next Zen 4 Ryzen APUs, which are aimed at the desktop market, will be dubbed Ryzen 8000. These chips will include integrated graphics processors with far more power, based on AMD’s most recent RDNA3 GPU architecture. According to current speculations, AMD is planning to launch four new SKUs, the 8-core Ryzen 7 8700G, the 6-core Ryzen 5 8600G, the 6-core Ryzen 5 8500G, and the 4-core Ryzen 3 8300G, targeted at the mid-range and entry-level desktop markets. Those will not be open to sales for the moment future.
Zen 4 cores and smaller Zen 4c cores will be combined in the hybrid core configuration of the final two models. Although model 8300G is going to include one Zen 4 processor and all three Zen 4c cores, the 8500G will have twin Zen 4 cores and three Zen 4c cores.
About graphic design, AMD’s recent generation of bundled graphics units, the Geforce 700M series, whose is currently accessible with the Ryzen 7000 smartphone replacements, are going to be included in the newly released processors.
Graphics-wise, these new chips will come with AMD’s latest generation Radeon 700M series integrated graphics units that are already available in its Ryzen 7000 mobile counterparts. The 8700G will have the flagship Radeon 780M with 12 CUs, the 8600G the 760M with 8 CUs, and the final two chips the 740M with 4 CUs.
AMD has yet to confirm a release plan for its Ryzen 8000 series CPUs, although insider rumors suggest they will launch in the coming months. AMD will likely introduce its new APU portfolio at CES in January, although it might do it in the coming weeks in time for the holidays.
