The 5G-Advanced Core Industry Forum, hosted by China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) and co-hosted by Huawei, took place at the China National Convention Center during the 31st PT Expo China. This forum is a significant event in the Asian ICT industry, bringing together thought leaders and specialists from the telecom industry.
During the forum, Huawei launched a 5G-Advanced Core promotion initiative in collaboration with industry partners, including CAICT, 3GPP, China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, Schneider, Neolix, TD Tech, and SmartSuperV. The objective of this initiative is to promote industry consensus and commercial deployment of a new core architecture for the 5G-Advanced era. The aim is to build an intelligent, convergent core network that connects everything and enables all services, aligning with the vision of an intelligent world within the industry.
The launch ceremony marked the beginning of the 5G-Advanced Core promotion initiative. Huawei, as a leader in the industry, put forward the concept of 5.5G to fully leverage the value of 5G and facilitate the transition towards 6G. In 2021, 3GPP officially recognized 5G-Advanced as the second phase of 5G evolution and began standardizing its components in Release 18. This milestone in 3GPP mobile standards signifies a new chapter in the development of 5G technologies and standards globally. The 5G-Advanced Core, serving as the engine of telecom networks, will enhance network connectivity across all service scenarios.
The emergence of 5G-Advanced brings about new service requirements, such as the shift from 2D to 3D videos, enhanced connections, and intelligent interactions for voice and video calls. These evolving needs drive the growth of new scenarios, content, and applications. To address these demands, the 5G-Advanced Core’s network capabilities will be significantly strengthened, particularly in adaptive multi-mode connections and fully meshed networking. With intelligent management of topologies, experiences, and services, the 5G-Advanced Core will enable innovative video, connectivity, and calling services, elevating service experiences and catalyzing the digital transformation of various industries.
The initiative calls upon communications standards organizations, operators, network equipment vendors, terminal and chip manufacturers, and other industry stakeholders worldwide to collaborate and drive the evolution of core network architecture and connectivity. By doing so, the sustainable development of the 5G-Advanced Core industry can be promoted, delivering enhanced value for individuals and industries alike.
