Xiaomi announced Xiaomi HyperOS, powering its smart ecosystem of personal devices, automobiles, and home items, during its “Leap Beyond the Moment” launch event. Targeted four main objectives: Xiaomi HyperOS promises a revolutionary user experience with low-level refactoring, cross-end intelligent connectivity, proactive intelligence, and end-to-end security. The recently announced Xiaomi 14 Series, Xiaomi Watch S3, Xiaomi TV S Pro 85″ MiniLED, and other domestic gadgets will come with Xiaomi HyperOS.
Full device potential through low-level refactoring
Xiaomi has grown from 100 users to 1.175 billion consumers and over 200 product categories in 13 years. Xiaomi has to navigate the many device operating systems and ecosystem compatibility issues in the Internet of Things era. This experience inspired Xiaomi HyperOS, a groundbreaking innovation. Xiaomi HyperOS, under development since 2017, aims to unify IoT. Its goal is to merge all ecosystem devices into one system. Best device performance, consistent user experience, and seamless communication among Xiaomi devices are the ultimate goals.
Xiaomi HyperOS is based on Linux and Xiaomi Vela. Its excellent interoperability and accurate system resource management allow every device to run well. Xiaomi HyperOS supports hundreds of device kinds and thousands of SKUs with over 200 processing platforms and 20 common file systems. It supports hardware-specific configuration, operation, and deployment. Compatible device RAM capacities range from 64KB to 24GB. Xiaomi HyperOS is lightweight because it only configures necessary resources based on hardware and deduplicates and compresses the IO stack. Smartphone system firmware is only 8.75GB, a significant improvement over competitors.
Xiaomi HyperOS has improved scheduling that can control hardware and workloads in difficult situations. Technical methods like dynamic thread priority adjustment and dynamic task cycle evaluation optimise performance and power efficiency. Xiaomi HyperOS smartphones run resource-intensive games with a more consistent frame rate and reduced battery consumption than stock Android and other significantly modified operating systems.¹ Xiaomi HyperOS’s scheduling benefits are much more obvious on lightweight devices with low processing power, as job splitting among numerous computing units for cooperative processing enhances hardware performance. In addition, Xiaomi HyperOS has restructured technical modules like the file system, memory management, imaging subsystem, and network system to efficiently harness and optimize device hardware capabilities for optimal performance.
Cross-End Intelligent Connectivity
Xiaomi HyperOS breaks standard system designs beyond single-end performance. HyperConnect, a cutting-edge Cross-End Intelligent Connectivity framework, enables real-time device networking. The integrated device center lets users actively handle virtually all of their connected devices, allowing them to monitor and manage their ecosystem from anywhere, whether at home, on the road, or at work. Users can effortlessly recognize and control all Xiaomi ecosystem devices, ushering in a new age of ease and efficiency.
Xiaomi HyperOS unifies all linked devices to customize software. Easily swap camera sources during video conference, access automobile cameras from your phone, use your smartphone’s back camera on a tablet or laptop, and connect your tablet to the internet via your phone. Users may easily transfer programs, clipboard content, and alerts across devices.
Proactive Intelligence
The Internet of Things requires cross-device communication and capabilities integration. Xiaomi HyperOS adds an AI subsystem that supports sophisticated AI technologies to help devices help users.
Xiaomi’s cognitive hub, HyperMind, pioneers cross-device interactions in the era of ‘proactive intelligence.’ This lets gadgets anticipate and meet user demands. HyperMind uses devices’ environment, vision, sound, and behavior perception capabilities to learn user demands and automatically modify gadgets. After user approval, HyperMind will automatically switch on the living room light if a user always does so when unlocking their smart door lock. By simplifying cross-device connectivity and lowering machine learning expenses, consumers may enjoy device connectivity without having to master complicated logic understanding or trigger mechanisms.
Xiaomi HyperOS powers system apps with huge foundation models. Xiaomi AI Assistant now offers speech production and article summarizing via its user interface with big foundation model text generation. The upgraded real-time subtitle technology transcribes video conference interactions into notes and intelligent meeting summaries. Speech may be used to search photo albums and produce AI portraits. The tablet version of “Mi Canvas” has an AI brush that can turn doodles into masterpieces. Third-party apps can use the AI subsystem for document understanding via WPS screenshots or single-command presentation production.
Xiaomi HyperOS uses its AI subsystem to incorporate huge foundation models into the NPU for efficient deployment. Xiaomi supports its self-developed big foundation models on smartphones, such as the imaging foundation model, which has reduced model size and memory use by 75% and drawing time from 100 seconds to 5 seconds.¹ Xiaomi AI Assistant’s ‘Text to Image’ and ‘Image Extender’ in device photo albums are improved by these image generating capabilities.
User protection in all situations
Xiaomi prioritizes privacy and security in all user experiences and strives to improve them. Self-developed Xiaomi TEE underpins our security subsystem. This isolated security OS protects sensitive data on specialized hardware, covering biometrics, passwords, and screen locks for smartphones and IoT devices.
Xiaomi HyperOS prioritizes security for devices and networked security modules. This integrated security module-based TEE maintains network device trust. Xiaomi HyperOS encrypts data between devices using TEE to protect the network.
Co-creating and sharing intelligent ecosystems
Xiaomi HyperOS promotes an open software environment and invites partners to help us build an intelligent ecosystem and improve user experience.
Xiaomi is happy to open-source Xiaomi Vela, a consumer IoT software platform. Xiaomi built this standalone platform using the open-source NuttX real-time operating system. Xiaomi Vela simplifies development by abstracting hardware differences and providing a consistent software interface for upper-level developers across IoT gear. This method simplifies development, unifies application contexts, and boosts efficiency. Xiaomi Vela is open-source to IoT device makers and developers to promote creativity, performance, and real-time communication across a wide range of products.
Xiaomi HyperOS is a human-centric operating system focused on smart ecosystems for automobiles, smart homes, and personal gadgets. The technology is a major step toward Xiaomi’s “Human x Car x Home” smart ecosystem.
