The first company to offer the greatest 24GB capacity on the market starts delivering goods to a major smartphone maker
HKMG process integration allows the product to achieve both extremely low power consumption and outstanding performance.
“Seeks to dominate the premium DRAM market with a focus on satisfying customer needs”

Following the mass production of LPDDR5X in November 2022, SK Hynix Inc. said today that it has started offering its clients the first 24-gigabyte (GB) Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X1) mobile DRAM package in the industry.
1. LPDDR: Low Power DRAM for mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, which operates at low voltage and aims to reduce power consumption. The LPDDR5X DRAM is the seventh generation of this type of memory, succeeding generations 1, 2, 3, 4, 4X, and 5. Prior to the creation of the 8th generation LPDDR6, SK Hynix created LPDDR5T in January, an enhanced version of LPDDR5X that is now undergoing customer validation.
“The company integrated the High-K Metal Gate (HKMG2) process in the 24 GB LPDDR5X package, enabling the product to deliver outstanding power efficiency and performance,” claimed SK hynix. “The 24GB package has given us more flexibility in meeting the needs of our customers,” said the author of the statement.
2 .HKMG: A next-generation method that improves capacitance and prevents leakage currents by using a material with a high dielectric constant (K) in the insulating film inside DRAM transistors. Speed is increased while power consumption is decreased. In November 2022, SK Hynix became the first company in the sector to incorporate the method into mobile DRAM.
The 24GB LPDDR5X package can handle 68GB of data per second, or the equivalent of 13 Full-HD (Full-HD) movies in one second, and operates in the ultra-low voltage range of 1.01 to 1.12V specified by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC).
Prior to today’s announcement, SK Hynix had started providing its new device to OPPO, a maker of smartphones, last month the ‘Oneplus Ace 2 Pro’, OPPO’s newest flagship smartphone, was unveiled. It includes SK Hynix’s 24GB LPDDR5X package.
According to Louis Li, Vice President of Marketing at OPPO, “With the timely supply of 24GB LPDDR5X from SK hynix, we were able to become the first to launch a smartphone that features the industry’s largest capacity DRAM.” With this new smartphone, users will be able to multitask more effectively and have longer battery life.
Due to the current smartphone’s rapid performance increase, its functions have evolved beyond those of a communication device to include those of an edge device3, and IT experts predict that the device will be crucial in the AI era. The performance of semiconductor memory, the primary component, must be improved in order to use AI in smartphones, and as a result, the memory market is expected to expand further.
3. Edge Device: A device that connects the local network to an external wide area network ( cloud, data centre) by collecting and transmitting data. Examples of edge devices are personal smart gadgets, automobiles, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
“Our LPDDR products will be able to support a growing list of applications such as PC, server, high-performance computing (HPC), and automotive vehicles,” said Myoungsoo Park, Vice President and Head of DRAM Marketing at SK hynix. “Along with a faster advancement in the broader IT industry.” “The business will maintain its dominance in the premium memory market by offering the best-performing products that satisfy consumers’ needs.”
