Modders can now recreate iconic DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 games with full ray tracing, DLSS 3.5, incredibly realistic assets, and physically correct materials thanks to RTX Remix Creator Toolkit. RTX Remix is based on NVIDIA Omniverse and includes a toolkit software to make altering game materials and objects easier as well as a runtime renderer.

The RTX Remix Runtime was made publicly available by NVIDIA last year, enabling modders to increase game compatibility and improve rendering speeds. With the RTX Remix Creator Toolkit now available for open source development, modders can improve the speed at which assets can be replaced and scenes can be relit, expand the file formats that RTX Remix’s asset ingestor can handle, and add additional models to the AI Texture Tools.

Furthermore, madders may now live link RTX Remix to other DCC tools like Blender and generative AI programs like Comfy UI thanks to the REST API capabilities of RTX Remix Toolkit. In order to enable madders to integrate the renderer of RTX Remix into games and applications other than the DirectX 8 and 9 classics, NVIDIA is also offering an SDK for the RTX Remix runtime.

Over 100 RTX remasters are currently being developed on the RTX Remix Showcase Discord, thanks to the 20,000 modders who have experimented with utilising the RTX Remix Creator Toolkit since its inception earlier this year to modify vintage games. They hope that by keeping the RTX Remix platform open, modders every where will be able to create even more incredible RTX remasters.

Open Source Now for RTX Remix Toolkit

A powerful modification tool designed to improve vintage DirectX 8 and 9 games is the RTX Remix Toolkit. This toolkit, which is powered by NVIDIA Omniverse, gives modders access to sophisticated editing tools so they may improve game assets. It ensures a richer gaming experience by enabling the seamless integration of remastered assets into gameplay using the RTX Remix Runtime.

Users may easily replace original game assets with high-fidelity remastered copies, adjust lighting settings, and employ Generative AI for texture remastering using the RTX Remix Creator Toolkit. This toolkit, which has been simplified for ease of use, enables developers to create visually striking game settings without requiring a great deal of technical expertise.

The RTX Remix Toolkit now has additional features and functionality thanks to contributions from the community. All modders are now able to add new features, adjustments, and modifications to our Toolkit on GitHub by making it open sourced.

After going through code review, these submissions might be chosen to be included in official Remix releases. This would increase the Toolkit’s functionality and provide more tools for Remix modders to use while making incredible mods and remasters of vintage games.

Visit the tools channel of the RTX Remix Showcase to view modders’ contributions. Make sure to upload your own Remix enhancement to NVIDIA open source GitHub if you’re motivated to create one.

The REST API for RTX Remix

Developers can now integrate RTX Remix with other programs, such as DCC programs like Blender, ComfyUI, and ChaiNNer, using the REST API. Applications can integrate seamlessly with any of the RTX Remix Toolkit’s features while it operates in the background.

REST API provides modders with access to cutting-edge technology, allowing them to rapidly enhance games by incorporating a vast array of new features tailored to their specific requirements. Modders may handle game assets in large quantities and adjust even the smallest elements thanks to connected programs, which open up countless options. The artist’s inventiveness is the sole restriction.

We’ve integrated RTX Remix with ComfyUI’s generative AI ecosystem to showcase one of the REST API’s features, and we’ve made the plugins available as open source on GitHub.

With the aid of generative AI, game textures can be swiftly remastered in high definition and with physically correct materials that complement RTX Remix’s complete ray tracing. To improve game graphics or updated assets, upgrade secondary assets with AI using tools like ComfyUI to save time.

To create your own ray-traced mod for a vintage game, download the NVIDIA RTX Remix Beta and follow NVIDIA setup instructions in the tutorial videos. To discover the newest RTX Remix mods, visit ModDB, and RTX-accelerated programs like Blender and Adobe Substance by visiting NVIDIA Studio.

NVIDIA is eager to see how developers and modders enhance the fully open RTX Remix platform and grow the library of games and apps that it supports. Keep an eye on GeForce.com for updates regarding RTX Remix developments in the future.

The NVIDIA RTX Remix

RTX Remix, an open-source framework based on NVIDIA Omniverse, enables modders to produce breathtaking RTX remasters of vintage video games. With the help of the software, you can swiftly produce gorgeous RTX remasters with full ray tracing and DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction, as well as effortlessly capture game assets and automatically enhance materials with generative AI capabilities.

The NVIDIA Remix App

Your main user interface (UI) for building RTX mods for vintage games is the open-source RTX Remix application. See real-time updates in the RTX Remix viewport, improve assets, relight scenes with path-traced lighting, and import game captures with ease.

Utilise NVIDIA Omniverse-Connected Apps to Reimagine Assets

RTX Remix is based on NVIDIA Omniverse, a central location for optimising 3D workflows. With the help of the industry-standard Universal Scene Description (Open USD) framework, you can easily transfer assets between RTX Remix and well-known 3D programs like Blender and Adobe Substance.

AI Texture Generation Tools

With the help of RTX Remix’s integrated generative AI texture tools, low-resolution textures from vintage games can be analysed to create physically correct materials like normal and roughness maps, and the quality can be upped by up to 4X. Furthermore, RTX Remix is connected with ComfyUI, allowing modders to experiment with thousands of generative AI models.

Runtime for RTX Remix

The RTX Remix runtime injects RTX features such as route tracing, DLSS 3.5, and Reflex while dynamically replacing the original components with modified assets during playback. Use the in-game overlay to quickly fine-tune mods in real time, and use the RTX Remix Creator Toolkit maker app to collect game assets. The RTX Remix runtime is available as an SDK that developers can utilise to include it into any game, and it is open-sourced on GitHub for the modding community to contribute to.
