Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 GPU Adreno 750 GPU May Drop 14.7% Frequency, Qualcomm Seeking Efficiency.

It has been rumored that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 GPU will ship with an Adreno 750 GPU. Earlier leaks of test results indicated that the graphics processor was approximately 80 percent more powerful than the Adreno 740 that is included in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model currently on the market. Unfortunately, that performance gap might close slightly by the time commercial units are released, as a new rumor claims that Qualcomm may slow down the Adreno 750 in order to reach a new benchmark in terms of power efficiency. Qualcomm is likely aiming for this new threshold.

It has been speculated that the frequency of the new Adreno 750 GPU will be 770MHz; however, it is possible that mobile device manufacturers will have some leeway in adjusting this value.It is likely that Qualcomm only has a small amount of power headroom before it begins to see diminishing returns from the Adreno 750. This is because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is not mass-produced on TSMC‘s 3nm or N3B process. It is possible that lowering the clock speed from 903MHz to 770MHz resulted in the greatest improvement in battery life and thermals, with only a slight decrease in performance.

The Adreno 750 is able to keep its performance when running benchmarks and graphically intensive applications like games, so users won’t have to worry as much about their devices overheating as a result of this frequency downgrade.
