AMD has announced its Ryzen 7000 Pro series chips for mobile and desktop PC segments. These chips are based on Zen 4 architecture and offer a streamlined portfolio for both workstations and traditional commercial notebooks. The mobile chips are built on the 4nm process, while the desktop chips are on TSMC’s 5nm silicon.
AMD Ryzen Pro 7040 Series Mobile:
The Ryzen Pro 7040 HS-Series chips are designed for mobile workstations and creator systems, offering three processors in Ryzen 9, 7, and 5 variants (AMD Ryzen 9 PRO 7940HS, AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS and AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7640HS). They have a TDP (thermal design power) of 35-45W and feature up to eight cores and 16 threads, along with RDNA 3 graphics engine.
The Ryzen Pro 7040 U-series chips(AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U , AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7540U and AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7640U) are targeted at commercial notebooks and come with a TDP of 15-28W. They also offer up to eight cores and 16 threads.
These Ryzen Pro chips feature AMD’s integrated Ryzen XDNA AI engine, which is a dedicated accelerator for low-intensity AI inference workloads. The goal is to provide faster response times and improved performance while saving battery power.
In addition to the AI engine, the Ryzen Pro series includes AMD Pro Technologies suite, offering features like AMD Pro Security, AMD Pro Manageability, and AMD Pro Business Ready. These features enhance security, ease system management tasks, and ensure stability and reliability.
AMD claims that its Ryzen Pro chips offer competitive performance compared to Intel’s processors. The company has provided benchmarks comparing the Ryzen Pro chips to the Apple M2 Pro processor and Intel’s Core i7 models, showcasing better performance and power efficiency in various tasks.
The Ryzen Pro series will be available in laptops and desktops from AMD’s partners, including HP and Lenovo. These systems will be equipped with the latest Ryzen Pro processors and offer a range of options for professionals and businesses.
