AMD continues to expand its processor lineup, and alongside the recent release of the Micro Center exclusive Ryzen 5 5600X3D with 3D V-Cache, a new budget-focused quad-core processor based on the Zen 3 architecture has emerged. While not officially announced by AMD, the Ryzen 3 5100 processor has been discovered on GIGABYTE’s CPU support pages for their AM4 motherboards, confirming its existence.
AM4 Platform Continues to Deliver Value
Despite the introduction of the latest Ryzen 7000 chips based on the Zen 4 architecture, AMD remains committed to supporting the AM4 platform as it progresses. This platform, despite its age, continues to offer exceptional value for money, particularly with the inclusion of X3D chips featuring additional 3D packaged V-Cache.
Ryzen 3 5100: An Entry-Level Quad-Core Processor
An entry-level quad-core CPU, the Ryzen 3 5100 is built on AMD’s APU-focused Cezanne microarchitecture. The Ryzen 3 5100 lacks integrated graphics, as opposed to the Ryzen 5000G series, which has them. The Ryzen 3 5100 features a base frequency of 3.8 GHz, a peak frequency of up to 4.2 GHz, 8 MB of L3 cache, support for DDR4-3200 memory, and a 65 W TDP. It also has 4 cores and 8 threads.

Support and Compatibility
GIGABYTE’s CPU support lists for their AM4 motherboards include both the Ryzen 7 5700 and Ryzen 3 5100 processors. These lists confirm that these processors have been tested for compatibility with the relevant platforms and motherboards, ensuring they operate as intended. The Ryzen 7 5700, based on the Cezanne Core found in AMD’s Ryzen 5000 series, has been available through OEM partners, such as CyberPower’s Gamer Master desktop system, which combines the Ryzen 7 5700 with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.
The Cezanne Core and Possible APU Recycling
The presence of the Cezanne core in the Ryzen 7 5700 and Ryzen 3 5100 suggests that AMD may have repurposed some of its APUs for these processors. The G nomenclature typically indicates integrated graphics in AMD’s APU lineup. While the mainstay of Zen 3 desktop processors is the Vermeer core, it is plausible that AMD utilized Cezanne cores without integrated graphics for these particular chips.
Availability and OEM Channels
The Ryzen 3 5100 was initially expected to launch alongside the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in April 2022. However, the release did not materialize as anticipated. AMD confirmed that the Ryzen 7 5700 has been available through OEM channels since last year, but information regarding the Ryzen 3 5100’s availability is limited. Although it could be an OEM-only chip, no examples of the Ryzen 3 5100 in OEM partner systems have been found, and AMD has not provided details about its existence or availability.
The Ryzen 3 5100 is an exciting new processor in AMD’s inventory as it broadens its selection of processors. It offers consumers who are on a tight budget a quad-core choice built on the Zen 3 architecture. AMD continues to show its commitment to providing value and innovation to a wide variety of consumers by providing continued support for the AM4 platform.
