Cloud SQL by Google
The enterprise-ready, fully managed database service offered by Google Cloud for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server workloads is called Cloud SQL. More than 95% of Google Cloud’s top 100 clients already utilise Cloud SQL, which is utilised across a variety of industries, including digital services, finance, and retail. It received requests from some of you for more performance and availability as increasingly demanding workloads shift to the cloud. You’ve also been requesting additional options and flexibility so that you may tailor your settings to meet your specific workload requirements.
Three significant improvements are included in the Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition for MySQL and PostgreSQL, which are releasing today. First, through a range of software optimisations, better machine types and configurations, and an integrated SSD-backed data cache option, It have greatly increased both read and write speed. Compared to the existing Cloud SQL offering, It provide up to a 2x reduction in write latency and up to a 3x increase in read throughput with Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus for MySQL.
In order to meet your availability objectives for your business-critical applications, It also provide a 99.99% availability SLA that includes maintenance and nearly zero downtime for scheduled maintenance operations. Third, It improved the data protection features by adding a 35-day log retention period, which is essential for any organisation with stringent compliance standards. These requirements are met by Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus version, which expands on Cloud SQL’s established capabilities.
The current Cloud SQL version will remain unchanged in terms of functionality and cost, but it will now be referred to as the Cloud SQL Enterprise edition.
Exploring the innovations in Enterprise Plus for MySQL
Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus for PostgreSQL also provides improved write throughput, offering up to 2x better performance compared to the Enterprise edition. It shares the same availability, reliability, and data protection enhancements as the MySQL edition.
The existing version of Cloud SQL, which remains unchanged in terms of features and pricing, is now referred to as Cloud SQL Enterprise edition.
Without changing application, It can now instantly benefit from improved speed, availability, and data protection to this new version. Specifically, after adding the Data Cache, It have seen a more than three-fold increase in query speed for clients who run extensive reports on the platform. It has excited to collaborate on upcoming developments with Cloud SQL and Google Cloud.
The Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition has received positive feedback from early adopters. Everflow Technologies, a company utilizing the Data Cache feature, reported more than 3x improvement in query performance for clients running intensive reports on their platform. Workday, a provider of cloud-based services, expressed satisfaction with the high-performance database and the benefits of Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus for their demanding workloads. Salesloft, another adopter, experienced a 2x improvement in sustained performance (TPS and query latency) with Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus for PostgreSQL.
It’s important to be able to offer great user experience to the customers and as it moved to the public cloud, it was clear that it needed a high-performance database to support the requirements. It worked closely with the Google Cloud team to invest in Cloud SQL improvements and with the launch of the Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition, It now have options for high performance and availability for the most demanding Workday workloads, leveraging the higher read and write performance, higher availability, and minimal planned downtime.
Enterprise Plus for PostgreSQL
Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus provides optimized configurations, performance improvements, increased availability, and enhanced data protection, making it an attractive choice for organizations with demanding database workloads.
All of the availability, reliability and data protection enhancements mentioned for MySQL, are also available with Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus for PostgreSQL: a 99.99% availability SLA inclusive of maintenance, reduced planned downtime of less than 10 seconds, and a higher level of data protection with 35 days of log retention.
