The business has recently increased operations by acquiring businesses in Europe and Latin America. Today, Gruppo Maggioli’s software division is renowned for its web and mobile app platforms, which improve public administration’s quality, dependability, speed, and transparency.

Improved services for customers and companies

In order to maximize the potential of SaaS business models and achieve more seamless infrastructure management, Gruppo Maggioli started investigating cloud technologies. In the end, the business decided to assist its digital transition with Google Cloud.

“We standardized on Google Cloud for its high reliability, scalability, and performance to ensure that we could modernize scalable public administration applications and infrastructure,” claimed Robert Ridolfi, director of Gruppo Maggioli’s IT Service and Technologies Business Unit.

To assist in achieving its cloud migration objectives, the company collaborated with Injenia, a Google Cloud partner that Gruppo Maggioli acquired in 2021. Application development, work transformation, and machine learning (ML) are Injenia’s Google Cloud specialties.

Using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Injenia professionals assisted Gruppo Maggioli’s IT personnel transition from monolithic to microservice application architecture.

“We implemented continuous integration and automation using GKE Autopilot mode to flexibly and efficiently manage our resources while accelerating deployments and our time to market for new features,” stated Franco Cucchi, software security expert and cloud architect, Gruppo Maggioli. Additionally, we observe improved communication between our platform engineering team and product engineering team.

In order to manage its databases, Gruppo Maggioli implemented Cloud SQL. Additionally, the teams at the company use Filestore as a fully managed, low-latency NFS solution for their GKE-based apps. The IT team uses Google Cloud Marketplace to make purchases as its needs for additional Google Cloud products change, saving time in procurement and gaining the simplicity and visibility of unified billing.

Data sovereignty and cloud security in Google Cloud

By using ML-based capabilities that were trained on its applications to offer adaptive protection against assaults on applications and websites, Gruppo Maggioli adopted Cloud Armor to strengthen its security posture. For threat detection, investigation, and response, the IT team is also trialing the use of Security Command Center and Chronicle Security Operations.

Given the GDPR obligations and extra local privacy rules across Europe, data governance played a significant role in Gruppo Maggioli’s decision to use Google Cloud. With 11 European regions and more than 30 edge Points of Presence (POPs) spread across Europe, Google Cloud’s extensive global meshed network of data centers fulfills regulatory needs that demand data residency while offering quick performance.

“Google Cloud’s POPs in Rome, Milan, and now Turin help us simultaneously deliver great experiences for our clients across Italy and address their data governance concerns,” Cucchi stated.

According to Cucchi, Google Cloud enables Gruppo Maggioli to meet growing client demand for hybrid cloud solutions. The usage of Anthos to manage GKE clusters and workloads that are running on Google Cloud, in-house, or in other public clouds is being investigated by his team.

According to Cucchi, “Our business is driven by constantly changing customer needs.” “With Google Cloud, we’ve built a strong reference implementation and a partnership with a reliable, preferred cloud provider. At the same time, we value the chance for considerable flexibility with a managed Kubernetes experience that is uniform across environments and quickly adapts to our clients’ needs.

An improved future

Numerous of Gruppo Maggioli’s well-known applications, including Municipium, Sicraweb, Icaro, Sportello Telematico, and others, have already been transferred to Google Cloud. “We observe advantages in terms of availability and good quality of service (QoS). This enables us to provide our clients with top-notch services, added Cucchi.

Looker Studio is used by Gruppo Maggioli to analyze company data and provide compelling visualizations of important KPIs. The management of the organization can make better decisions to shape its future with timely knowledge.

The company has undergone organizational restructuring as part of its digital transformation. Stefano Palazzi, head of Gruppo Maggioli’s software factory, stated that in order to maintain their reputation for innovation, “they have assisted our IT staff in acquiring new skills in cloud best practices.” As a result, Gruppo Maggioli keeps advancing integrated digital public administration services for the benefit of individuals, organizations, and other stakeholders.
