At its headquarters in Riyadh, Zain KSA, a prominent Saudi digital service provider, successfully carried out the first joint verification of Fixed Wireless Access Gaming Acceleration in partnership with Huawei. This proof of concept (POC) ushers in a new age of distinctive wireless home internet experiences by correctly identifying gaming services and successfully ensuring user experience and perception.

One method that expands fixed broadband connections is called Fixed Wireless Access. In order to give residential users network access, it uses Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to collect mobile signals from 5G base stations and transform them into Wi-Fi. Given Saudi Arabia’s distinct topography and abundance of indoor entertainment choices, Fixed Wireless Access immediately attracted a sizable household user base when it first entered the market. It provides quick and easy network connections while addressing the difficulties associated with implementing conventional fixed-line fiber optic networks.

According to statistics, there are more than 25 million gamers in Saudi Arabia, and their needs for a high-quality home gaming network are growing. A targeted improvement to the present FWA solution is the Gaming Acceleration feature, Service Turbo, which was jointly confirmed by Zain KSA and Huawei. The proof of concept effectively showed that the gaming service’s fast speed and low latency were effectively ensured under full network load (simulated using SpeedTest), with a 90% decrease in latency and a 70% decrease in jitter in comparison to situations without this feature.

The slicing or dedicated bearer is the main method used to implement the Service Turbo technology. Accurately detecting gaming traffic, Huawei 5G CPE Pro 5 attaches the game slicing or initiates the creation of dedicated bearers in the Huawei Core Network and RAN. This guarantees that network resources are scheduled and allocated for gaming traffic in a priority manner. This innovation helps Zain KSA provide new possibilities to home broadband users in the market by improving and guaranteeing the gaming experience while also properly and logically allocating the limited network resources.

The Fixed Wireless Access Service Turbo was introduced with the goal of improving the game experience by successfully resolving issues like latency and network instability. This cutting-edge service will provide users with unique experiences, demonstrating its dedication to satisfying the changing needs of a changing digital environment.

Zain KSA has continuously followed its Fixed Wireless Access strategy plan. Zain KSA continues to lead FWA innovation with the expansion of multidimensional network capabilities from 5G to 5G-A, satisfying consumers’ unique network needs and establishing a new standard for the uptake of wireless home internet in the Saudi market and beyond.

What is fixed wireless access?

Without the need of physical cables, fixed wireless access (FWA) is a wireless technology that offers high-speed internet access to a designated area. Fixed Wireless Access, also referred to as fixed wireless internet, connects a customer’s location to the internet using radio waves.

Fixed Wireless Access is an economical and effective substitute for conventional telephone or cable connections. It’s perfect for businesses without standard broadband or for reaching underserved or remote areas. In the event of a network failure, FWA can also be utilized as a backup solution.

FWA uses several subscriber units dispersed over a large region and a base station linked to a fixed network. Customers can connect to the network by using radio waves to communicate with the subscriber units from the base station. Typically, rooftop antennas installed on fixed objects like buildings or poles establish the radio waves.

Although Fixed Wireless Access is compatible with both 4G LTE and 5G technologies, 5G FWA is especially useful due to its fast speeds and low latency, which are on par with fiber optic connections.

Fixed wireless access architecture

Fixed wireless access (FWA) architecture is a system that links residences and commercial buildings to the internet via radio waves:

The base station

A stationary network-connected station that uses radio waves to communicate with subscriber units

Units of subscribers

Wireless devices that function as tiny cell towers are dispersed across a wide region.

Equipment on Customer Premises (CPE)

A device that receives data from the base station and is installed either inside or outside a residence or place of business

Modern

An apparatus within the structure that transforms the CPE signal into Wi-Fi for numerous devices

What Is Fixed Wireless Internet?

Fixed Wireless Access is an easy-to-use solution that doesn’t need any wire or drilling. Because it’s inexpensive and easy to execute, it’s a fantastic choice for companies that relocate regularly. In rural areas or places with unpredictable weather, FWA can also be utilized as a backup to wired networks.
