Galaxy Z Flip 5 Durability: Withstanding 274,000 Folds

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is without a doubt my favorite phone that has been released this year, and while I appreciate the phone primarily for the cover display, the hinge seems to be rather strong. The phone is rated for 200,000 folds, according to Samsung, and this was confirmed by Bureau Veritas, a certifying agency. The Motorola Razr Plus, its closest rival, was defeated, proving that the phone is significantly more durable than the official statistics stated.

The hinge on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is undoubtedly one of the strongest available for foldable phones.

Mrkeybrd, a YouTuber, decided to test the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Motorola Razr Plus on actual people to see how long each phone would last while folded and unfolded. Samsung’s clamshell foldable has crossed 274,000 folds as of this writing, while Motorola has failed after only 126,300 folds.

That does not mean, however, that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 was not affected by the problem. After 223,000 folds, the phone did lose its capacity to stay entirely unfurled at a 90-degree angle. The phone is still functioning flawlessly more than 24,000 folds past the 200,000 official folds that Samsung told us at the time of the release. a Motorola? Not really. The Galaxy Z Flip, in general, is a phone that tends to beat expectations, as it has demonstrated numerous times, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

In the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, Samsung uses a component referred to as Flex Hinge. Although the so-called “waterdrop hinge” is nothing new in the folding world, it does demonstrate that the manufacturer did a decent job with the phone’s overall structure given that 273,000 folds is an excellent number for a phone. This should give you a lot of peace of mind as you won’t have to worry about your phone breaking on you if you have been considering buying a phone but weren’t sure whether it would last.A lot—274,000 folds. If you do this every day for a year, your phone will fold and unfold 750 times. Which is just too good, to be honest.
