FinOps Hub 2.0
The began to receive more input from business community as Google Cloud customers began using the FinOps Hub 2.0 to direct their optimization efforts. For instance, business teams frequently lack clear insights into resource use, creating a big blind spot, but DevOps users have access to tools and utilization indicators to uncover waste.
This requirement is reaffirmed in the most recent State of FinOps 2025 Report, which ranks waste reduction and workload optimization as the top FinOps concerns. If clients don’t completely grasp how much is being consumed, it’s very hard to improve workloads or applications. For computational cores that you may not even be using to their full potential, why buy a committed use discount?
Utilizing the resources they are paying for more effectively can often be the simplest adjustments it clients can make. In order to assist you in identifying, highlighting, and getting rid of wasteful spending, it have upgraded FinOps Hub in 2025 and are concentrating on thoroughly cleaning up your optimization opportunities
Find waste: FinOps Hub 2.0 now offers additional utilization analytics to pinpoint areas for optimization.
The launched FinOps Hub 2.0 at Google Cloud Next 2025 with the sole goal of highlighting resource utilization analytics so you may identify any waste and take prompt action. Waste can take many different forms, such as an overprovisioned virtual machine (VM) that is barely being used at 5%, an underprovisioned GKE cluster that is actually running hot at 110% utilization and may fail, or managed resources like Cloud Run instances that may not be configured optimally (suboptimal configuration) or, worse, an idle virtual machine that may never have been used.
The most costly waste category may now be easily viewed by FinOps users in a single, easily comprehensible heatmap by service or AppHub application. However, FinOps Hub does more than just highlight potential waste; it also offers further cost improvements for Cloud Run, Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, and Cloud SQL to address the waste.
Highlight waste: Gemini Cloud Assist powers FinOps Hub to compile optimization insights and provide engineering possibilities.
However, the fact that it used Gemini Cloud Assist to speed up the most time-consuming activities on FinOps Hub may be what truly distinguishes this release as a 2.0. The clients have saved over 100,000 FinOps hours a year since the initial launch of Gemini Cloud Assist, which assists in creating customized cost reports and synthesizing insights (January 2024 to January 2025).
Google Cloud implemented Gemini Cloud Assist’s ability to streamline and automate processes in two ways for FinOps Hub. First, you don’t have to figure out the “needle in the haystack” of optimization because FinOps can now see embedded optimization insights on the hub itself, much like cost reports. Second, Gemini Cloud Assist may now be used to compile and forward the most important waste insights to your engineering teams so they can move quickly to fix the issues.
Eliminate waste: Introducing a NEW IAM role permission for your tech solution owners to see & directly take action on these optimization opportunities
Lastly, most exciting feature and one that FinOps has been waiting a long time for is that they are granting tech solution owners access to the billing panel. This will allow them to view Gemini Cloud Assist and FinOps data for all of their projects in one pane. With multi-project views in the billing console, for instance, you can grant access to FinOps Hub or cost reports to a department that only uses a subset of projects for their infrastructure without giving them more extensive access to billing data while still enabling them to view all of their data in a single view.
The new Project Billing Costs Manager IAM position (or associated granular permissions) is used to provide multi-project views. Sign up to have access to the private preview of these new permissions. With these enhanced access limits, you can now fully leverage the potential of FinOps products throughout your company.
As the proverb goes, “With clouds overgrown, like winter’s old grime, spring clean your servers, save dollars and time.” This spring, try FinOps Hub 2.0 with Gemini Cloud Assist and clean your cloud infrastructure. Regardless, Gemini says that’s what they say.
