ASUS Z790 Motherboard
The ROG Maximus Z790 Apex from Asus has been updated so that it is compatible with the forthcoming 14th Generation Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs from Intel. The new overclocking-centric motherboard, which has been given the name ASUS Z790 Apex Encore, will undoubtedly set a great number of new global overclocking records.
The renderings that were stolen from Benchlife show that Asus has gone back to using a black and silver color scheme for the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore motherboard. It is the most common color scheme found on Apex motherboards, thus it came as a surprise when Asus decided to go with an all-white design for thASUS Z790 Apex instead of sticking with the traditional color scheme.
Some individuals enjoyed the newly introduced motif, while others did not. The ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore, on the other hand, has reverted to the Apex’s more traditional design. We can only hope that Asus has resolved the PCB bending problem that was present on the ASUS Z790 Apex. Many users of the ASUS Z790 Apex have reported that the PCB bent in that region as a result of the massive heatsink that is used to cool the power supply subsystem.
ASUS Z790 Overclocking Guide
The ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore is a high-end motherboard that supports the LGA1700 socket and is equipped with the ASUS Z790 chipset. The fact that the motherboard would most likely debut at the same time as Raptor Lake Refresh means that it will support the newest Intel processors from day one, in contrast to the 700-series motherboards that are already on the market, which require a tiny firmware change.
Because the first generation ROG Maximus Z790 Apex features a 24-stage architecture, we anticipate that the Encore will have a power solution that is either equivalent to or more advanced than the original. During overclocking, the Raptor Lake Refresh CPU, such as the Core i9-14900K, must be able to draw all of the power it requires, which is why the two 8-pin EPS power connections have been left in place.
Only two DDR5 memory slots are available on the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore since this motherboard is designed with overclockers in mind. The first design was capable of supporting data speeds as high as DDR5-8000 and even higher.
We have seen skilled overclockers push the DDR5 RAM on the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex up to DDR5-11202 in order to ensure that the Encore will have the same level of capability when it comes to memory overclocking. However, the maximum capacity is capped at 96GB (2x48GB), as there are only two DDR5 memory slots available. The other slot houses a DIMM that is exclusive to Asus.2 slots for attaching M.2 solid-state drives (SSDs).
It looks that the Encore only has four SATA III ports, in contrast to the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex, which has six of these connectors. In the event that the M.2 slots do not change, the motherboard features one M.2 PCIe 5.0 slot and four M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots (including the two that are provided by the DIMM.2). Additionally.
Asus altered the expansion slots seen on the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore in a few different ways. The normal ASUS Z790 Apex includes a mix of PCI Express 4.0 x4 and PCI Express 4.0 x1 expansion slots, however the updated variant has two PCI Express 4.0 x4 slots instead. In the meanwhile, it is highly doubtful that any changes will be made to the two expansion slots that are PCIe 5.0 x16.
There has been no modification to the wired connectivity. On the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore, there is still only one 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, which is powered by the Intel I225-V Ethernet controller. On the other hand, wireless technology has benefited from significant advancements.
It has been reported by a European merchant that the ASUS Z790 Apex Encore features Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 capabilities. This is an improvement over the Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 capabilities that were included on its predecessor. It is difficult to speculate whether the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore has the same connection ports as the normal Apex because there is no specification sheet and there are no renderings of the rear panel.
In its online stores in Finland and Norway, respectively, Proshop has advertised the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore for the price of $879 and $881. The listing was provided by Harukaze5719. If we deduct the VAT (value-added tax), we’re looking at a price tag that’s somewhere around the $700 mark. This is comparable to the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex, which has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $699.99. The introduction of Raptor Lake Refresh is said to take place on October 17, and as a result, the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore is approaching quickly.
