Apple M3 Ultra
With the most potent CPU and GPU in a Mac, twice as many Neural Engine cores, and the most unified memory ever seen in a personal computer, Apple today unveiled Apple M3 Ultra, the highest-performing chip it has ever produced. For stronger extension and quicker connectivity, Apple M3 Ultra now has Thunderbolt 5, which has more than twice the bandwidth per connector.
Apple’s groundbreaking UltraFusion package architecture, which connects two M3 Max devices over 10,000 fast connections with low latency and high bandwidth, is used in the construction of the Apple M3 Ultra. This enables the system to preserve Apple’s industry-leading power efficiency while treating the coupled dies as a single, unified chip for huge performance. The new Mac Studio’s industry-leading capabilities are further enhanced by UltraFusion, which combines 184 billion transistors.
Ultra Performance and Efficiency
The Apple M3 Ultra maintains Apple silicon’s industry-leading power efficiency while offering the highest performance of any Mac processor. With 24 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores, the 32-core CPU can outperform M2 Ultra by 1.5 times and M1 Ultra by 1.8 times. It contains the largest GPU of any Apple processor, with up to 80 graphics cores, making it 2.6 times faster than M1 Ultra and 2 times faster than M2 Ultra.
M3 Ultra’s sophisticated graphics architecture can handle even the most taxing content creation tasks and games thanks to hardware-accelerated mesh shading, ray tracing, and dynamic caching. AI and machine learning (ML) are powered by a potent 32-core neural engine, which also drives Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system that sits at the heart of the new Mac Studio’s potent generative models.
With features like Apple’s most potent GPU, the Neural Engine, ML accelerators in the CPU, and more than 800GB/s of memory bandwidth, the M3 Ultra is actually designed for AI. Mac Studio with Apple M3 Ultra is the best desktop for AI development since it allows AI specialists to execute large language models (LLMs) with over 600 billion parameters directly on the device.
Unparalleled Memory
The greatest high-bandwidth, low-latency memory ever made accessible in a personal computer is integrated into the Apple M3 Ultra’s unified memory architecture. It may be set up to 512GB, or more than half a terabyte, from its starting point of 96GB. This surpasses the memory capacity of the most sophisticated workstation graphics cards on the market today, eliminating restrictions for professional applications requiring high graphics memory requirements, such as 3D rendering, visual effects, and artificial intelligence.
Thunderbolt 5 for Next-Generation Connectivity
With data transfer rates of up to 120 Gb/s more than twice as fast as Thunderbolt 4 Apple M3 Ultra introduces Thunderbolt 5 to Mac Studio. Directly on the chip, each Thunderbolt 5 connection is supported by a unique, specially created controller. This makes Mac Studio the most capable Thunderbolt 5 implementation in the industry by allocating specific bandwidth for each port.
For professional customers who need faster data transfer speeds for hub solutions, docking, and external storage and who need to be prepared for the upcoming expansion chassis generation, Mac Studio’s Thunderbolt 5 ports are revolutionary. Additionally, Thunderbolt 5 makes it possible to connect several Mac Studio systems for workflows that push the boundaries of computer science research and multimedia creation.

Cutting-Edge Technologies Built In
Apple’s cutting-edge technologies are integrated directly onto the processor in Apple M3 Ultra in an effort to maximize performance and efficiency:
- By connecting two M3 Max dies via an incorporated silicon interposer that spans over 10,000 signals, Apple’s proprietary UltraFusion packaging technique offers over 2.5TB/s of low-latency interprocessor bandwidth and makes Apple M3 Ultra appear to software as a single chip.
- The media engine in Apple M3 Ultra can process far more video at once because it has double the resources of M3 Max. Up to 22 streams of 8K ProRes 422 video may be played back on the Apple M3 Ultra thanks to the chip’s specialized, hardware-enabled H.264, HEVC, and four ProRes encode and decode engines.
- Up to eight Pro Display XDRs can be supported by the display engine, which can power over 160 million pixels.
- To offer cutting-edge security, the Secure Enclave integrates runtime anti-exploitation and hardware-verified secure boot technologies.
