Amazon EC2 I8g With Graviton4 Processors And Nitro SSDs

Introducing AWS Graviton4 CPUs and third-generation AWS Nitro SSDs-powered storage-optimized Amazon EC2 I8g instances.

Amazon EC2 I8g Instances

Optimal performance in Amazon EC2 for workloads requiring a lot of storage

The Reasons for Amazon EC2 I8g Instances?

EC2 I8g instances from Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) are next-generation, storage-optimized instances made to run applications that need to access data on local SSD storage with high throughput and real-time latency. Utilising third-generation AWS Nitro SSDs, I8g instances offer up to 22.5 TB of local NVMe storage and are powered by AWS Graviton4 CPUs. Custom-built by AWS, AWS Nitro SSDs provide cloud-scale performance and security with constant encryption.

Real-time databases, relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL databases (Aerospike, Apache Druid, Clickhouse, MongoDB), and real-time analytics (Apace Spark) are among the workloads that I8g instances are most suited for because they demand real-time latency access to data. Amazon EC2 instances that have been optimized for storage offer the best compute and storage performance.

Benefits

High-performance SSD storage

Third-generation AWS Nitro SSD-based I8g instances have an instance storage capacity of up to 22.5 TB. They offer 50% lower storage I/O latency, 60% lower storage I/O latency variability, and up to 65% higher real-time storage performance per TB when compared to I4g instances.

Maximum efficiency for applications that are storage-optimized in Amazon EC2

Compared to I4g instances of the previous generation, I8g instances have compute performance that is up to 60% greater. These instances are perfect for workloads requiring a lot of input and output, like real-time databases and real-time analytics, and come with DDR5-5600 memory.

Wide-ranging software assistance

The most widely used Linux OS systems support AWS Graviton-based instances. Graviton-based instances are compatible with well-known security, monitoring, and management apps and services, containers, and continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) services from AWS and partners. Through the AWS Graviton Ready program, customers can also locate certified Graviton solutions.

Features

With the help of AWS Graviton4 processors

The most recent generation of server CPUs from AWS, known as AWS Graviton4, offers the highest performance and energy efficiency for applications in Amazon EC2. By up to 30%, AWS Graviton4 processors outperform Graviton3 processors in terms of computation, and by 60% over Graviton2 processors.

Improved protection

Because AWS Graviton4 processors allow pointer authentication, have separate caches for each vCPU, and have always-on memory encryption, they provide increased security. Additionally, encrypted Amazon Elastic Block Store is supported by I8g instances.

Developed with the AWS Nitro System

With its extensive set of building components, the AWS Nitro System transfers many of the conventional virtualisation tasks to specialised hardware and software. In addition to lowering virtualisation overhead, it offers great performance, high availability, and high security.

Product information

Arm-based AWS Graviton4 CPUs and third-generation AWS Nitro SSDs power I8g instances. For workloads that require a lot of input and output, they provide the best performance on Amazon EC2.

I8g instances provide additional compute and storage options than I4g instances by providing up to 96 vCPUs, 768 GiB of memory, and 22.5 TB of storage.

I8g instances can be used for transactional databases (MySQL and PostgreSQL), real-time databases, NoSQL databases (Aerospike, Apache Druid, and MongoDB), and real-time analytics (Apace Spark) that demand low latency access to data.

To improve the performance and security of your workloads, I8g instances are also based on the AWS Nitro System, which transfers networking, storage, and CPU virtualization tasks to specialized hardware and software. The Graviton4 processors provide increased security due to the complete encryption of all high-speed physical hardware interfaces.

Important information

The following information pertains to EC2 I8g instances:

  • Operating system: Amazon Linux 2023, Amazon Linux 2, CentOS Stream 8 or up, Ubuntu 18.04 or up, SUSE 15 SP2 or up, Debian 11 or up, Red Hat Enterprise 8.2 or up, CentOS 8.2 or up, FreeBSD 13 or up, Rocky Linux 8.4 or up, Alma Linux 8.4 or up, and Alpine Linux 3.12.7 or up are all supported by EC2 I8g instances.
  • Networking – I8g instances can be used for workloads that require a lot of storage and usually have sporadic network usage patterns. Most applications that require instance storage data hydration, backup, and snapshot across the network can be supported by all I8g instance sizes, which have burst network bandwidth and can burst for more than 60 minutes, depending on the instance size.
  • Migrating storage-intensive workloads to I8g instances will be easy if you’re already utilising I4g instances because these instances provide comparable memory and storage ratios to those of your current I4g instances.

Available now

Amazon EC2 I8g instances are now offered through On-Demand instances, Savings Plans, Spot Instances, Dedicated Instances, or Dedicated Hosts in the US East (N. Virginia) and US West (Oregon) AWS Regions.
