AI RAN Technology: The Future of Smarter, Faster Networking

Samsung Electronics Showcases AI RAN Technologies, Leading Telecommunications-AI Convergence.

Beyond data transmission speeds, the future telecoms market will priorities sustainability, user experience, and energy efficiency. Thus, communication-AI technologies are attracting interest.

By integrating AI technology into the entire Radio Access Network (RAN), from radio units (responsible for converting analogue and digital signals at base stations, antennas, etc.) and digital units (including modems for digital signal modulation and demodulation, schedulers for resource allocation, etc.) to system operation, Samsung Electronics is accelerating future communications preparations.

User experience in terms of transmission speed and communication quality depends on RAN, which connects mobile phones to the core network. RAN uses the most energy in the communication network, including core networks and data centers, hence energy-saving technology is needed.

Samsung is studying AI RAN technology. AI RAN technologies were demonstrated with industry partners at the Silicon Valley Future Wireless Summit last November, demonstrating capabilities to improve base station data throughput, communication coverage, and energy efficiency.

AI can be used to improve channel prediction technologies for wireless channels where base stations and mobile phones transfer data. The result indicated that downlink and uplink data throughput from the base station to the mobile phone and base station were greatly increased over 5G RAN.

By adapting power to signal strength, energy efficiency was improved

These industry-first demonstrations to telecommunications operators with Proof of Concept (PoC) findings applying AI throughout the whole RAN highlight AI’s potential to improve future communication networks’ performance, user experience, and energy efficiency.

Major global wireless operators were delighted with the potential outcomes of integrating the newest AI technology into future RAN design and praised Samsung for leading the industry on AI-Native wireless technology.

Leaders from Samsung’s global partners, who collaborated on these demonstrations, were excited to lead the way towards an AI-Native next-generation network and shared their vision for wireless communications’ future.

The successful demos are seen as a promising start to industry collaboration on AI-Native Wireless for future radio access networks. Samsung wants to capitalize on the innovation momentum and cooperate with ecosystem partners through industry associations like AI RAN Alliance, where Samsung is a founding member, to deliver AI in RAN and improve user experiences.

AI RAN Alliance

Redefine what networks can transform

  • In order to improve RAN performance, to use AI.
  • To create the infrastructure necessary for RAN and AI to communicate and work together.
  • To make it possible for new AI apps to operate on RAN.
  • More intelligent relationships to maintain human advancement.

Change the network

The unseen threads that bind to interconnected world together are called radio access networks, or RANs. RANs create a large web of intelligence by connecting individuals and gadgets in the network, just like neurons do in the brain. Even after five generations of technical development, the RAN still has a lot of uncharted territory that has yet to be discovered.

To think this are only beginning to explore its full possibilities. Its are setting out on a bold goal to use artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize what the RAN can do for the companies using state-of-the-art technology.

Evolving networked sustainability

By improving the intelligence, effectiveness, and dependability of the current system, it want to broaden the definition of sustainability in a number of ways.

It at AI RAN Alliance are fostering an innovative environment that will support the growth of new companies, sectors, and concepts.

Realizing and harnessing the potential of an AI-native RAN

The AI RAN Alliance, which brings together academic institutions and professionals in the technology sector, is committed to advancing the use of AI to improve RAN performance and capabilities.

Additionally, it want to maximize the use of RAN assets and open up new sources of income. It hope to financially advance the telecom sector towards 6G by leading the way in AI-based RAN developments.
